Anderson Theodore founded BKT Capital after spending a decade helping entrepreneurs raise capital and launch companies. He wants to focus on getting capital into promising companies led by individuals who have historically been kept out of investment capital pools.
Anderson saw the need first hand, of women, minorities and other underrepresented groups not having access to capital to either launch or scale their businesses. Anderson’s mother was a small business owner who had immigrated from the Caribbean. He watched his mother try to scale her business but repeatedly get turned down.
After working for several years for a global clothing brand in NYC, she opened up her own clothing boutique and sought capital to launch her own clothing line. Unfortunately, she repeatedly ran into obstacles in trying to scale her small business and never received the capital to grow. After witnessing the inability to find capital to scale her business, Anderson decided in high school, he was going make it his life’s mission to help entrepreneurs and business owners develop and grow their business.
After attending undergrad in Florida and law school in New England, Anderson settled at a law firm in Philadelphia working for large corporations. In 2008, he decided to leave big firm law to get a hands-on experience in helping entrepreneurs in the VC/PE space.
Anderson spent three years as an associate at Platinum Direct Capital Group, a private equity firm on Wall Street. As an associate, he sourced 24 deals that the firm ultimately invested in.
Anderson moved to the Bay area 4 years ago and immediately began investing in small companies. He enrolled in and completed the highly competitive Venture University’s prestigious VC/PE Program. During his tenure at VU, Anderson and his cohort sourced and reviewed over 4,000 companies and ultimately invested in 4 promising early stage startups.
